Now spring is under way and with Easter next weekend, this investor’s thoughts turn to the English summer; my favourite day of the year. More seriously, after the most depressing winter in living memory, hopes are rising that life might get back to something nearer normal — with all that means for how we spend our time and money.

For example, two years ago today I invested in the Oakley and Ray-Ban sunglasses maker that is listed in Paris under the somewhat extravagant name of EssilorLuxottica (stock market ticker: EL). It’s been under a bit of a cloud recently, for obvious reasons, but shares I bought for €96 currently look much better at €136 and I think there might be further to go.
